A Mini Q&A

How are the experiences through CLDP helping you to become a well-rounded leader in your potential major/career?

CDLP is not focused on one specific aspect of leading. It is focused on many. You won't find us only serving at every gathering, you won't find that all of the seminars and workshops are dedicated to resume building, and you won't find that every person involved has the same interests and goals. Each experience focuses on a completely different trait of an effective leader while also pulling in objectives from previous ones. Because those who guide us and those who are members of the program diverge in personalities, you become more capable of collaborating and networking with unfamiliar people in unfamiliar situations whether that be in the workplace, classroom, service, or social setting. This is essential to my potential career in the Public Relations sector. I must understand how to capture the attention and hearts of multiple groups of people, not just those similar to my own. Also, building the brand of anything does not come easy. By practicing interpersonal and social skills in varying situations, I will be more prepared start when pitching to and developing relationships with new media and other sources who can help me promote the mission of either my own or another cause/organization.

What have you learned about yourself through this program that you didn’t know before? How will this new knowledge enhance your leadership potential?

Through CLDP, I have discovered my love for people and my craving for complexity. I simply can't keep myself from asking questions or discovering new things. This self-awareness has made me realize that I can be the person who brings out the strengths of a group, who gets to know the hidden talents and weakness of others which can then be used to a team's advantage. My ability to connect and empathize with others has the potential to make every member know that they are vital, want to contribute, and be vehement about the purpose behind our goal.  This, in combination with my niche for going out of the box, can also promote creativity and new ways of thinking. The more important people feel and the more they care about their work, the more they will push themselves out of their comfort zone to prevail.
