Unforgettable Memories
Indulge
Indulge not just in chocolate, but in your passions and in yourself. Self-love and self-care are some of the most important components of an overall well being. For me, the arts play a massive role towards these things. They release my stress and allow me to pour my OCD into something other than thoughts which seem to take over my mind. I have been dancing since before I could walk, and I am now a part of NC State's Fusion Dance Crew. I enjoy a genuine book which touches on civil and human rights (such as The Kite Runner and To Kill A Mocking Bird), as well as The New Yorker. In high school, I took two art classes (one of my pieces pictured right) and continue to craft and experiment on my own. As mentioned in About Me, I believe that the creative mind is a progressive and expressive one. Everyone should embrace their inner Frida Kahlo and even Beyonce which, for me, boosts my self-confidence, my risk-taking abilities, and even my positive outlook on the universe.

Besides the arts, I am a part of Summit College, a Christian youth group on campus affiliated with the Summit Church. In the slide show, you can find a picture of my first time hiking up to the peak of a mountain.

Describe your image

This was done at the Black Mountain Weekend held by Summit Church just last semester. From the view, I could see God's beauty and truth before me. Now, one goal I have for myself is to say yes to something new at least once a week, whether that be trying a new food or taking on surfing which, I must mention, I successfully did (and after, got to hold a kitty). Experiences such as these have taught me that my favorite moments are those which are unexpected, the memories I simply gave a chance to be created. If you just say yes, who knows what you will uncover about yourself. If you just say yes, who knows what bonds you will create and cherish for eternity.

Initiate
Initiate action, whether that be becoming the change you wish to see in your community or going after an internship which has seemed too far out of reach. In high school, I founded the first human trafficking awareness and abolition club for students in Eastern, NC. I simply could not sit back with the knowledge I had acquired about the crime and do nothing. To strengthen my efforts, I reached out to the local non-profit, True Justice International, and soon began to work directly with the head of their Will Force department. My biggest accomplishment through this club was creating a Human Trafficking Awareness week in my school. I was also a guest speaker on a podcast for New Bern and Beyond where I discussed the club as well as the prevalence, dangers, and signs of the atrocity. Little do people know how easy it is to get caught up in the 150 billion dollar industry. Nor do they realize that there is no age limit to the victims' traffickers are trading and abusing. By exposing this hidden yet pervasive world, I know that I saved the lives of many.

Describe your image
Inspiring others is not a now endeavor, but a forever one. I am dedicated to inspiring and being inspired, even beyond my time at NC State University; however, this is not something one can do passively. It requires consistently searching for inspiration and knowing that your story, your unique yet relatable voice is capable of touching the hearts of others. Some famous figures I look to for inspiration are Michelle Obama and Jameela Jamil, two minorities using their journies for the benefit of society. Some people in my life I look to for inspiration are my best friend Anna, also a fellow dancer, and my sister Kimberly, a thriving artist who created the pictured Marilyn Monroe watercolor. As I explore other parts of the world, I hope to be inspired by the rich history, approaches, and values of such groups and countries. As other people explore who I am and my everchanging, complex identity, I hope that they too can take away something.
